Team Development Coaching

Helping Teams Work Better Together

Most teams don’t struggle because people aren’t capable, they struggle because things get in the way of how they work together.

Communication gets messy. Priorities drift. Assumptions build up and before long, a team that should feel connected starts feeling slightly out of sync.

That’s where my team development coaching comes in. It’s a chance to pause, look at how the team is actually working, and reset things in a way that feels practical, honest and useful and not at all theoretical.

This work is shaped by years of leading teams in large organisations, alongside professional coaching practice focused on real behaviour, not just models or frameworks.

What We Work On

Team coaching isn’t about ticking boxes or running generic workshops. It’s about what’s really happening in the room.

That usually means exploring things like:

How people communicate (not how they think they do!)

What’s helping trust grow or slowly eroding it

Whether everyone is genuinely clear on roles and expectations

How the team deals with pressure, change or disagreement

How things tend to get misunderstood or lost

How decisions are made and followed through

It’s less about theory, and more about noticing patterns and shifting them.

What gets in the way of people doing their best work together

When Teams Usually Get In Touch With Me

Most teams don’t reach out when everything is perfect. It tends to be when things feel like one (or more) of these:

“A lot has changed and we’ve not quite caught up yet”

“We’re working hard, but it doesn’t feel smooth”

“We keep having the same conversations”

“We’ve got strong individuals, but not a strong team feel”

“There’s tension, but nothing is being said directly”

“We’re not quite aligned, but we can’t put our finger on why”

None of this means a team is failing, it usually just means it needs space to reset.

“We talk more openly now”

“We’re clearer on who’s doing what”

“It feels easier to say what we actually think”

“We feel more like a team again”

What Usually Changes Afterwards

When team development work lands well, the changes are often quite noticeable in day-to-day work.

People tend to say things like:

“Things don’t get stuck in the same place anymore”

How My Sessions Work

Team sessions are very practical and very real. I work with what’s actually going on, not hypothetical scenarios.

Depending on what the team needs, sessions might include:

  • Open conversations about how the team is working right now

  • Reflecting on patterns that keep showing up

  • Simple but structured exercises that make dynamics visible

  • Practical activities that help people see things from different angles

  • Agreeing clear, realistic actions as a group

Sometimes I also use more hands-on methods where teams physically map or build ideas together. That tends to shift conversations in a different way, people engage differently when they’re doing something, not just talking about it.

The goal is always the same: clearer thinking, better understanding, and more useful action afterwards.

Who I've worked with...

"Sean’s meeting facilitator course was incredibly relatable and opened up a whole new set of skills I can use every day. He makes the sessions engaging and fun, and has a great way of bringing out even the quieter participants by encouraging them to use their “alter-egos” - brilliant fun! I also really appreciated the check-ins and follow ups to measure progress and recap key learnings. I’d thoroughly recommend this course to anyone looking to grow their meeting facilitation skills."

Experiential Team Development Workshop (LEGO® Style Facilitation)

I facilitated a team day for the EMEA supply chain team for LEGO to help improve collaboration and shared understanding within the team.

We focused on 'SDI Corestrengths' Relationship Intelligence to understand both individual and team motives and what happens when the pressure builds and 'conflict' is encountered.

Using structured hands-on activities, with some even including LEGO, the team was able to:

  • Understand each other’s individual motivations

  • Understand each other’s individual and team strengths

  • Recognise triggers and determine how to avoid them

  • Translate these insights into improved team performance

The result was a team that fully understood each other and what was required for them to function to their full potential as a unit.
