A happy group of team coaches!

I recently spent some time in Malahide, Dublin with these lovely people. We spent three days developing our team coaching skills, practising different scenarios and models to help teams move forward and improve how they work together. It was great to sign off the week as a qualified team coach, earning the 'Association for Coaching' Team Coaching qualification!

I always enjoy my work with teams and love the energy that a group can create plus I am fascinated by the whole team approach and the variety of elements for focus that emerge. I also recognise that the work of a team coach needs practising and developing, hence signing up for some personal development for myself and becoming a qualified Team Coach.

Furthermore, I chose Dublin so that I could immerse myself fully in the workshop, whilst enjoying the sea views and hospitality that Malahide promised and delivered. It is worth a visit if you are ever in the Dublin area!

So a bit more, about team coaching: Focusing on how teams work together and recognising the emergent themes that come up when a team starts discussing what they want to change and determining what they want to cover. It can be a less obvious path to an outcome but that path is more likely to be rich in rewards and results for all involved!

Team coaching can be similar to individual coaching (but obviously involving more people 😃), the team is a part of the process, determining what success will look like. By engaging the team fully in the process of their team development, individual members get involved in what needs to change and own their outcomes. The role of the team coach is to surface and reflect both the spoken and unspoken interactions that go on within a team, to help move the team forward to understand and unlock to realise their aspirations.

Being coached as a team may not resolve issues in one day. It may need a few sessions, with reflection time between, to let ideas and solutions build so should not be considered in the same way as a 'one off away-day, team build'. However, when the team invests time and consistent focus, the results are far greater with a significantly longer lasting successful impact.
